After launching the feature for compatible TVs, YouTube began providing HDR playback quality for some Android devices.
HDR video is similar to HDR photography, allowing you to view a wider variety of tones between the brightest and darkest parts of an image. However, it requires an HDR display to display the full range of tones.
“This screen needs to be able to display high brightness and contrast so you can display the range of tones, as well as support a wide range of colors than usual. In many cases, the improvement produced by HDR is more remarkable than the jump from 1080p to 4K, “says The Next Web.
Among the first devices to support HDR are: LG V30, Samsung Galaxy S8, Samsung Galaxy Note 8, Sony Xperia XZ Premium and Google Pixel – a surprise since the Google smartphone is not HDR certified.
A Google spokesman said the company is working to bring the HDR to more devices in the future, such as the LG G6 that was off the list.
