Are you a teacher, a student ? A web designer or a developer ? You must have lots of emails attached with JavaScripts exchanged with your friends. Here is a bad news for you.

Yes gmail is banning JavaScript attachments from the second week of this february . Google has announced that it will block JavaScript file attachments from February 13 by adding the extension to the list of restricted files, which include .exe, .msc, and .bat.

When you attach an .js file after day 13, users will receive a notification that the attachment has been blocked “because their content has a potential security problem.”

Its really bad that there is no escape gate on this restriction. The detection of .js files will be done even in compressed files (.zip, .tgz, .gz or .bz2). There is no way you can transfer your JS files through gmail.

Though JavaScript files are mainly harmless, but gmail is aware that these files could be used by hackers which may contain ransomware that can download a variety of malwares on users computers. Its all about security matters, gmail has explained about the announcement.
